I first saw one on cleetus mcfarland youtube channel a couple years ago during sick week, I decided to model one for fun, it's not the greatest but it's fun. It work better on some truck than others due to the hitch height.

cool mod, never even seen one IRL
I have seen lifts on cement pads outdoors (the same kinds you see in a shop but outdoors in the elements!)
also wondering if a particular truck might have an adjustable hitch then this mod would work better? (you mentioned this works better with certain hitch heights).
yeah one of my friend have an outdoor lift haha, as for the truck there's just too many availlable to try them all, plenty have adjustable hitch ... https://portablecarhoist.com/ << real version of the mod
